Introduction to IMRI facilities

IMRI facilities are located at several locations on UCI campus:

1) CTEM ( Center for Transmission Electron Microscipy) is a newly established facility located on the 1st floor ( rooms from 1121 to 1151) of Engineering Hall ( UCI campus building 308).
2) LEXI (Laboratory for Electron and X-ray Instrumentation) is loactaed on the 1st floor (rooms 1302 and 1301) of  Calit2 building ( UCI campus building 325).
3)  SSF ( Surface Science Facility) is loactaed on the 1st floor (room 1322) of  Calit2 building ( UCI campus building 325)
4) TEMPR ( Thermal, Elemental, Mechanical, Physical and Rheological Facility) is under construction loactaed on the 2nd floor of  Calit2 building ( UCI campus building 325) and and may be available in the spring of 2019.
5) MC2 (Materials Characterization Center) is located on the 1st floor of  Engineering Tower  ( UCI campus building 303)

The instruments in each facilities include:

CTEM: including 4 TEMs and 1 SEM/FIB together with a full set of TEM specimen preparation eqipment.

LEXI: including two SEMs (one is dualbeam SEM/FIB), two XRDs, TGA, DSC and Micro System Analyzer together with a set of specimen preparation eqipment.

  • X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)
  • High resolution scanning field emission Auger electron spectroscopy and microscopy (AES, SAM)
  • Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS)
  • Ion scattering spectroscopy (ISS)
  • Reflection electron energy loss spectroscopy (REELS)

TEMPR: including a set of instruments for materials property meassurement such as Thermal, Elemental, Mechanical, Physical and Rheological properties

MC2: including a TEM, A SEM and a XRD with a set of sample preparation instruments
