If Staff will run experiments for you:

Finish Steps 0 and 1, and refer to “request testing service” on the relevant facility page.

If you will operate instruments yourself:

Follow Steps 0 thru 7 and finish each step accordingly in order.

Step 0: Read and Consent to IMRI Policies (Prerequisite)

IMRI policies are strictly enforced throughout all user facilities. Please carefully read through the policies by following this link prior to requesting IMRI access. All personnel who uses any type of instrument or service across IMRI facilities are required to read and consent to the Facility policies, which include the following:

    • Acknowledgment Policy
    • Billing and Rates Policy
    • Collaboration Policy
    • External User Agreement (non-UCI Users Only)
    • Facility Waiver
    • Safety Policy
    • Training Policy
    • Instrument Usage Policy

Fill out the External User Agreement and the IMRI Facility Waiver, and email signed copies to Dr. Jian-Guo Zheng (jzheng@uci.edu).

Step 1: Provide your Company Details

Please provide your UC Campus details using the following form: https://forms.gle/RwHyqHPTRKwZj2J8A

A member of the IMRI administration team will set up the account once received.

Step 2: Obtain a Sponsored UCInetID

In-person operation of an instrument requires the completion of a Sponsored UCInetID Application form emailed to Dr. Zheng (jzheng@uci.edu). The application will take 3-5 business days for review.

Step 3: Request KSAMS Access to IMRI

Make sure you are either using the on-campus internet service or the campus VPN if remote.

Access the OIT KSAMS portal using the following link: https://www.oit.uci.edu/services/accounts-passwords/ksams/

Follow the quick link titled Request access in KSAMS and login in with your Sponsored UCInetID and password.

Locate the Access Request – Add Request tabs and make them your active page.

Look up the new user’s UCInetID information by entering their full name in the “Grantee Name” field and clicking the binoculars icon (search) on the right. The information should auto-populate when located.

Search for the ‘IMRI – User’ role in the Role Name Lookup field (or IMRI) and click the binoculars icon. Click the + button to add ‘IMRI – User’ to the document.

Once the role appears under Requested Access, enter a Reason/Justification such as the following: Company user setup for the IMRI facility. Include the name of your Company, Advisor/Supervisor, and Billing Contact. Submit the request once all steps are completed.

The document will automatically be routed to a member of the IMRI staff for review and approval.

It takes one business day after approval to access the IMRI-NEMO website. A campus network/VPN, UCInetID, and Duo login are required to access this website.

STEP 4: Obtain Laboratory Safety Fundamentals Training

Log in to the UC Learning Center with your UCI NetID and search for eCourse “Laboratory Safety Fundamentals“. After the training and assessment, you will be receiving your certificate of completion.

All users of electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction instruments must read the radiation safety training document. After reading the documents, please add your name and record the date of the training on the Radiation Safety Training Google Doc for our records. In addition, all women must read the Prenatal Radiation Exposure Policy, then print, sign, and turn in the accompanying ‘SIGNATURE NEEDED’ form.

Some instruments require additional safety training prior to accepting instrument-specific training requests. Please refer to the homepage of each user facility for more details.

Instrument-specific training sign-up for the TEMPR Facility please visit Training at TEMPR Facility

Instrument-specific training sign-up for all other labs can be accessed by first logging into the NEMO Reservation System and clicking on Training Sign-Up.

IMRI staff will schedule and perform the training session by following the training policies. Users will receive invitation emails a few days prior to the training sessions.

STEP 6: Apply for Keycard Access (Required for Accessing Lab Doors)

Please fill out the Keycard Request Form (PDF) and EXCEL sheet on NEMO, and email the PDF form, together with your certificate of Laboratory Safety Fundamentals training, to Calit2 Facilities Manager Ryan Smith and Dr. Jian-Guo Zheng.

Contact Information:

Ryan Smith Dr. Jian-Guo Zheng
Email: sryan@uci.edu Email: jzheng@uci.edu
Office: 3411 Calit2 Building Office: 3421 Calit2 Building

You will be notified via email once your keycard is ready for pick-up. A $15 deposit will be required at the time of pick-up. After you receive instrument training, your card will be granted access to relevant labs. IMRI Facilities include labs in the Calit2 building (1301, 1302, 1322, and 2423), Engineering Tower (140), and Engineering Hall (1131 to 1151).

Keycard access can be either daytime only (8:30 am – 5:00 pm weekdays except for holidays) or 24/7 (all times). Daytime access is granted by default. Some labs will require passing a competency test before granting users 24/7 access. Please communicate with relevant lab managers for details. You may need to complete at least 10 hours of daytime use on an instrument before you can request a competency test. Exceptions apply if users have extensive prior operation experience with the same instruments.

One Keycard can be used across all labs within the IMRI facilities.

Step 7: Assign your user profile to your Company's account

Users are required to set up their profiles upon the first login. Edit your profile information by clicking your highlighted name in the top right corner of the website.

Users can assign their accounts by searching for their PI in the project field. A drop-down list of accounts to choose from will be generated based on the queries entered.

Verify if all other user information is correct including User Type and Access Expiration (if applicable).
