JEOL JEM-2100F TEM

Description

JEOL-2100F is an advanced 200 kV TEM with a Schottky-type field emission electron source. The control system enhances easy and intuitive operation for users to achieve high-resolution TEM (bright-field and dark-field) imaging over a wide range of applications. The current setting at IMRI equips with both the cryo-pole piece and cryo-anticontamination devices that facilitate the imaging of material/biological specimens at cryogenic temperature.  The 2.8 mm focal length in the cryo-pole piece permits the acquisition of tomographic data with a maximum tilt angle of up to ±80°. The unique design of the anti-contamination device effectively protects frozen-hydrated specimens against ice condensation, a critical factor that ensures clean images in cryo-electron microscopy. The installed SerielEM software package facilitates the automatic acquisition of large cryo-EM data sets.

JEM-2100 is equipped with both Gatan K3 direct electron detector and a Gatan Oneview camera.  Gatan K3 Summit camera, the latest generation of direct electron detector, is installed on the 2100F to record the low dose high-resolution images at electron counting modes. K3 camera carries a large collection area (5760 x 4092 pixels) and a fast collection rate at 1500 frames per second. In comparison to the K2 camera, the ability of inline signal processing in K3 increases its detective quantum efficiency and allows for on-site motion correction. Gatan OneView CMOS camera is also installed on 2100F for routine screening and acquisition of high contrast images/diffraction patterns with a field of view at 4k x4k pixels.  OneView carries a high dynamic range (more than 16 bits) and a “live” experience with 25 frames per second at full image resolution.
